Auslan after dark are a comedy duo who tell jokes as they teach Auslan. Michelle is Deaf and uses Auslan and facial expressions to tell her jokes, Ben is a CODA (Child of a Deaf Adult) and an interpreter and uses his voice for to tell his jokes. They both interpret each other's jokes on stage, Ben voicing for Michelle and Michelle signing for Ben. This means the show is presented simultaneously in Auslan and English and is accessible to both hearing and Deaf audiences. Michelle tells stories about living as a Deaf woman in a hearing world and Ben tells stories of interpreting for the Deaf. Ben and Michelle work together on stage to tell jokes and teach the audience Deaf culture and teach them to sign words like unicorn without looking like a dickhead. They often disagree about signs and when they argue Ben has to voice both sides of the argument including any insults Michelle throws his way. This show attracts a varied audience as it appeals to the Deaf community, CODAs and anyone who has an interest in sign language after seeing them on the tv next to the politicians.
